Pisco (Puerto General San Martín) is an important cruise port in Peru, serving as a gateway to the fascinating coastal desert and ancient culture. Since the port is located in a rather remote industrial region, an organized arrival is particularly recommended for cruise guests from the DACH region.
Airplane
Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Lima is the main gateway to Peru and is located approximately 237 to 261 kilometers north of the port. The flight time from the DACH region is usually over ten hours, which is why an overnight stay before embarkation is advisable. A smaller regional airport, Capitán FAP Renán Elías Olivera (PIO), is also located near the city of Pisco and is mainly used for domestic flights and Nazca Lines overflights.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Lima Airport (LIM), you can reach the port of Pisco (Puerto General San Martín) comfortably with pre-booked private transfers. The journey takes about three to three and a half hours on the Panamericana, which is in good condition. Numerous providers offer door-to-door service directly to the ships. The cruise lines themselves also often organize transfers for their guests. Taxis and tour buses are also available directly at the port for onward travel, as the terminal offers no tourist facilities and leaving the port area without transport is not practical.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Arriving in Peru the day before the cruise is highly recommended due to the long flight time and to avoid travel stress. An overnight stay is ideal either in Lima or in the charming resort town of Paracas, which is only about 20 to 30 minutes by car from the port. Many hotels in Paracas and Pisco offer airport transfers and allow for a relaxed start to your cruise adventure.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
