Callao is the vibrant maritime gateway to the Peruvian capital of Lima and impresses as one of the most significant ports on South America's Pacific coast. The port city blends charming tradition with colonial heritage while serving as an ideal starting point for culinary discovery tours into the world-famous gastronomic metropolis. Right on-site, the imposing Fortaleza del Real Felipe, the picturesque peninsula district of La Punta, and the colorful Callao Monumental invite visitors to exciting explorations. Cruise ships dock at the Terminal Norte Multipropósito, from where the historic old town of Lima and the popular Miraflores district can be reached in approximately 45 minutes thanks to good connections.
Callao serves as the central cruise port for the Peruvian capital, Lima, and features modern berths for international passenger ships at the Terminal Portuario. Thanks to its location directly within the Lima metropolitan area, travelers benefit from excellent connections to international air traffic and short transfer distances.
Airplane
Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) is located only about 8 to 10 kilometers from the port, making it one of the closest airports to a terminal worldwide. Flight connections from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland usually lead through European hubs such as Madrid, Amsterdam, or Paris directly to the Peruvian metropolis.
Transfer & Shuttle
The journey to the terminal takes approximately 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic and is best carried out with official airport taxis or pre-booked private transfers. Since the port area on Avenida Néstor Gambetta is extensive and industrially characterized, many guests also use the comfortable shuttle buses provided by the cruise lines, which frequently run between the port and the central district of Miraflores.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey from Europe and the time difference, an overnight stay in the secure districts of Miraflores or San Isidro is recommended. These neighborhoods are located approximately 15 to 20 kilometers from the port and offer a high density of first-class hotels as well as an ideal starting point to enjoy Peruvian gastronomy and culture before embarkation.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
