Port information & tips for Acapulco
Acapulco is the legendary pearl of the Mexican Pacific and welcomes visitors with a spectacular bay set against the picturesque backdrop of the Sierra Madre. The city exudes the nostalgic charm of Hollywood's golden era and offers an authentic Mexican way of life thanks to its lively waterfront promenade and first-class beaches. Absolute highlights in the immediate vicinity include the historic, star-shaped Fuerte de San Diego and the world-famous cliff divers of La Quebrada, whose daring leaps provide goosebump-inducing moments. Cruise ships dock at the centrally located Terminal de Cruceros de Acapulco, which is situated in the heart of Acapulco Tradicional. Thanks to this prime location, the bustling Zócalo and numerous sights are easily accessible after just a few minutes' walk.
The Acapulco cruise port is ideally accessible for fly & cruise guests from the DACH region thanks to its central location in the traditional city center. Since traveling from Europe involves a longer flight time, a pre-cruise stay is recommended for relaxed acclimatization.
Airplane
The nearest airport is General Juan N. Álvarez International Airport (ACA) in Acapulco, located approximately 24 to 26 kilometers southeast of the city center and the cruise terminal. Direct flights from the DACH region are rare; travel usually involves comfortable connecting flights via major hubs, such as Mexico City or the USA.
Transfer & Shuttle
From ACA airport, you can easily reach the cruise terminal or your pre-cruise hotel by taxi or one of the shared vans offered. A taxi ride takes about 20 to 30 minutes. It is advisable to agree on the fare before starting the journey, as taximeters are not always used in Acapulco. In addition, various local service providers and cruise lines offer private transfer options that you can book in advance.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long intercontinental flights, it is recommended to spend at least one night in Acapulco before embarkation. This allows for a relaxed arrival and prevents stress on the day of departure. Numerous hotels in the "Zona Dorada" (Golden Zone) or in traditional "Old Acapulco" offer comfortable accommodation with good connections to the terminal and attractions.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The following also applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
