Returning to the ship

The port of Acajutla in El Salvador is an important industrial port on the Pacific coast and serves as a starting point for cruises in the region. Arrival for guests from the DACH region is primarily by plane, as the port is integrated into the national road network and numerous transfer options are available. The cruise ship typically docks directly at the pier within the industrial port, which has limited passenger facilities.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport (SAL) in San Salvador. It is located about 115 to 120 kilometers east of the port of Acajutla. Although there are no direct flights from the DACH region to SAL, the airport is well connected to major North and South American hubs, allowing for a convenient onward journey.

Transfer & Shuttle

From SAL airport to the port of Acajutla, a drive by car or private transfer takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours. Private shuttles and taxis are available, providing a comfortable and direct connection to the cruise terminal. Cruise lines often organize their own transfers for their guests as well. Public buses, known as "chicken buses", require multiple transfers and are less suitable for cruise travelers due to the long travel time of about 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey from the DACH region and the time difference, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel in El Salvador is recommended. Hotels near the airport in San Salvador or in the coastal regions around Acajutla offer a relaxed arrival before embarkation. This way, you can start your cruise well-rested and also have the opportunity to gather your first impressions of the country.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the cruise: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
