San Cristóbal is the fascinating eastern gateway to the Galápagos Islands and enchants visitors as one of the oldest and most biologically diverse paradises in the archipelago. The charming port town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno welcomes travelers with a relaxed atmosphere and omnipresent wildlife, where playful sea lions characterize the scene along the lively waterfront promenade. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the informative Centro de Interpretación, the scenic Cerro Tijeretas, and the gorgeous Playa Mann beach. Cruise ships usually anchor in the picturesque bay, from where passengers go ashore by tender at the central Muelle de Pasajeros. This pier is located directly in the heart of the city, meaning the promenade, local boutiques, and cafés are easily accessible on foot thanks to the prime location.
San Cristobal is one of the central arrival points for Galapagos cruises and impresses with the close proximity between the island airport and the port in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Embarkation usually takes place at the central Muelle de Pasajeros, from where guests are comfortably transported to their ships by dinghies.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region is via the international hubs of Quito (UIO) or Guayaquil (GYE), from which daily domestic flights to San Cristóbal Airport (SCY) depart. Airlines such as LATAM or Avianca serve the route regularly and land at the island airport, which is located just one kilometer from the port.
Transfer & Taxi
Thanks to the short distance between the island airport and the terminal, you can reach the port in less than five minutes by car using the island's typical white pick-up taxis. Many cruise lines also organize personal pickup services directly at the exit of the arrival hall and accompany you to the pier, ensuring the journey to the ship is particularly comfortable.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey and necessary formalities such as the Ingala Transit Control Card, an overnight stay in advance in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno or Guayaquil is recommended. A stay on the island allows for a relaxed start to the cruise and also offers the opportunity to observe the first endemic species directly at the harbor beach or in the nearby Interpretation Center.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
