Port information & tips for Playa Flamingo

Playa Flamingo is an exclusive jewel on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica and impresses with its brilliant white sand and the crystal-clear water of Guanacaste province. The region is known for its untouched nature and an elegant atmosphere that guarantees visitors a luxurious tropical experience. In the immediate vicinity, the beautiful Playa Flamingo Beach, the Marino Las Baulas National Park, and the picturesque Potrero Bay invite you to make unforgettable discoveries. Cruise ships dock at the state-of-the-art Marina Flamingo, which serves as a first-class mooring point and is located right in the center of the action. Thanks to this central location, the town's excellent restaurants, boutiques, and hidden coves are easily accessible on foot.

Playa Flamingo offers cruise guests a special arrival at one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches. Since cruise ships drop anchor here, embarkation takes place by tender boat. For a relaxed arrival from the DACH region, the combination of flight and transfer as well as a pre-cruise overnight stay is ideal.

Airplane

Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia is the nearest international airport and is located approximately 31 to 40 kilometers from Playa Flamingo. The travel time is a comfortable 60 minutes. Direct flights from Europe are rare; connections via North America are often necessary. Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) near San José is another option, but significantly further away (approx. 179 to 273 kilometers), with a driving time of about 4.5 to 5 hours. For long-haul flights, arrival at LIR is recommended.

Transfer & Shuttle

From Liberia Airport (LIR), you can reach Playa Flamingo comfortably by taxi or through pre-booked private or shared shuttle services. These offer direct and comfortable transport to your accommodation or to the meeting point for embarkation. Good connections exist via the well-developed Route 21, which merges into Routes 155 and 180 and leads you directly to the Flamingo Marina. There are no direct train connections in Costa Rica, and public bus connections often require several transfers.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey from the DACH region and the need for a tender boat for embarkation, a pre-cruise overnight stay in Playa Flamingo is highly recommended. This way, you start your cruise adventure relaxed and are prepared for any potential flight delays. The region offers a variety of first-class accommodations, including the Margaritaville Beach Resort or the 360 Splendor del Pacifico Residences. The new Marina Flamingo also has its own hotel. For private cars, there are no official secure long-term parking spaces; instead, street parking is common but unguarded. Therefore, a transfer is the more stress-free choice.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
