On Foot
The town stretches along a narrow coastal road, and the center with local shops and restaurants can be comfortably reached in about 5 to 10 minutes. A walk also offers wonderful views of the forested hills and the calm waters of the bay.
Water Taxis (Pangas)
The water taxis, known as pangas, are the most important local means of transport and wait for visitors directly at the piers. They offer a fast and scenic connection to nearby beaches such as Playa Cacao or take travelers directly across the Golfo Dulce to more remote destinations.
Taxi
Official red taxis are available at the port exit and are a comfortable choice for trips to the duty-free shopping center Depósito Libre or to the hiking trails of the Refugio Nacional de Fauna Silvestre. The drivers know the region very well and ensure a safe and informative onward journey.

This picturesque stretch of coastline is easily accessible by water taxi and, thanks to its sheltered location on the Golfo Dulce, offers ideal conditions for swimming as well as an impressive backdrop of dense jungle and tropical tranquility.
Piedras Blancas National Park
The pristine nature reserve in the immediate vicinity of the port impresses with its enormous biodiversity and is perfect for guided hikes; additionally, thanks to the lush vegetation, exotic wildlife and rare birds can be observed in their natural habitat.
Playa Cacao
The picturesque Playa Cacao is reachable in about ten minutes by a charming water taxi directly from the pier and offers an idyllic backdrop of dark sand and dense rainforest. The way back to the port in Golfito is very relaxed and safe, thanks to the town's clear layout along the coast.
Taxi
You will find numerous official red taxis at the Depósito Libre Comercial as well as in front of well-known hotels and marinas like the Banana Bay Marina. The drivers will take you directly to the port entrance, and thanks to the short distances, ensure a punctual return to the ship.
Water Taxi
If you spent your excursion at nearby beaches such as Playa Cacao, local water taxis are available for the return journey. These boats bring you comfortably across the calm waters of the bay directly to the pier and also offer a great view of the forested hills along the coast.
On Foot
From the city center or the adjacent American Zone, the way to the pier is easy to find and manage. Since Golfito essentially consists of one long main street, simply follow it towards the water and you will reach the port grounds safely in just a few minutes' walk.
