San Andrés is the heart of the Colombian archipelago and delights visitors with the legendary "Sea of Seven Colors." This coral island gem in the Caribbean captivates with its relaxed flair, white powdery beaches, and a fascinating mix of Latin American and Creole-English culture. Special highlights include the vibrant main beach Spratt Bight with its palm-lined promenade, the crystal-clear waters of nearby Johnny Cay, and the historic Baptist Church in La Loma. Cruise ships usually anchor off the coast, and guests reach the Muelle Departamental de San Andrés in the heart of El Centro directly by tender boat. Thanks to this central location, duty-free shops, first-class restaurants, and paradisiacal beaches are within easy walking distance.
San Andrés, an enchanting island in the Caribbean and a popular destination for cruises, is only accessible by plane. Cruise ships often anchor offshore, with tender boats taking guests to the new El Cove Embarcadero Pier in the center of the island, allowing for a direct arrival in the heart of the action.
Airplane
Travel from the DACH region is via Gustavo Rojas Pinilla International Airport (ADZ), the island's only airport. Direct flights from Europe are rare, which is why most travelers use connecting flights via major Colombian cities such as Bogotá, Medellín, or Cartagena, or via international hubs like Panama City with Copa Airlines. The long travel time makes careful planning and possible overnight stays recommended.
Transfer & Shuttle
From ADZ Airport, you can reach the cruise pier or your pre-cruise hotel comfortably and quickly thanks to the island's small size. Taxis are available directly in front of the terminal and will take you to most central locations within 5 to 10 minutes. Agreeing on the fare in advance is an advantage here. Some hotels also offer their own transfer services, guaranteeing a smooth onward journey.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight times and the need for connecting flights, it is strongly recommended to spend at least one night on San Andrés before embarkation. Hotels in the center (El Centro) or at Spratt Bight Beach are ideally located, as they offer short distances to the airport and the tender pier. Many accommodations allow for a relaxed start to your Caribbean vacation and are often even within walking distance of the main attractions.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
