Returning to the ship
The port of Antofagasta, a significant seaport on the Chilean Pacific coast, is primarily accessible by plane for cruise guests from the DACH region. The Terminal de Cruceros de Antofagasta is centrally located in the city, making travel distances short and convenient.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region is via long-haul flights to Santiago de Chile (SCL), followed by a comfortable domestic flight to Andrés Sabella Gálvez International Airport (ANF) in Antofagasta. This airport, also known as Cerro Moreno International Airport, is located only about 10 to 25 kilometers north of the city center and the cruise port. Airlines such as LATAM Chile, JetSMART, and Sky Airline offer regular connections from Santiago to Antofagasta, which take around 3 hours.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Antofagasta Airport (ANF), you can easily reach the cruise port or your hotel. Taxis are available and will take you to your destination in about 25 to 35 minutes. Fares to the city center are typically between 3,000 and 4,000 CLP. It is advisable to use official airport transfers or pre-booked private transfers, which offer a direct and stress-free service. Ride-sharing services like Uber are also a good option. Please note that taxis may not be allowed to drive directly into the port area; however, shuttle buses run from the port to the central Plaza Colón.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel in Antofagasta is strongly recommended. This allows for relaxed acclimatization before embarkation and provides an ideal buffer for potential flight delays. Many hotels in the city are well-prepared for cruise guests and often offer their own transfer services to the port. Numerous accommodations near the port allow you to explore the city at your leisure before your cruise.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents will usually provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
The port of Antofagasta is centrally located and provides you with quick access to the city's most important sights as well as the modern shopping district.
