Rio de Janeiro is Brazil's dazzling metropolis, welcoming travelers with a globally unique blend of vibrant city flair and stunning natural scenery. Airplane
Rio de Janeiro/Galeão International Airport (GIG) is the closest and primary destination airport for most international guests. It is located approximately 15 to 20 kilometers from the cruise terminal. Direct flights from the DACH region are available from major metropolises such as Frankfurt and Munich, which simplifies the journey. Arriving the day before embarkation is strongly recommended to adjust to the time difference and to prevent potential flight delays.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Galeão Airport (GIG), you can usually reach Pier Mauá within 30 to 50 minutes, depending on traffic volume. Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber or 99 are available directly at the airport and offer a convenient and safe transfer option. Many cruise lines also offer their own shuttle services that take you directly from the airport to the ship. Another option is the use of pre-booked private transfers, which are often also suitable for groups.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
An overnight stay in Rio de Janeiro before the cruise is advisable to start your vacation rested and relaxed. Numerous hotels in the city center or in the popular districts of Copacabana and Ipanema offer comfortable accommodations. From these hotels, Pier Mauá is often quickly accessible by taxi or ride-sharing services, with travel times varying between 15 and 40 minutes depending on location and traffic. Some hotels also offer their own transfers to the port or can assist with the organization.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
