Airplane & Transfer
The fastest way to arrive from the DACH region is by plane. The nearest larger airport in Lofoten is Leknes (LKN), about a one-hour drive from Reine. Another option is Svolvær (SVJ), around two hours away. Direct flights to Harstad/Narvik (EVE), the region's largest airport, are offered from Frankfurt, Munich, and Zurich; from there, connecting flights or bus connections to Lofoten are available. Alternatively, you can reach Oslo or Bodø with scheduled flights and then continue to Leknes or Svolvær with a local airline. From Leknes or Svolvær airports, taxis or buses (e.g., route 300 or 742) are available for the transfer to Reine.
Car & Ferry
For a flexible exploration of Lofoten, arriving by private car or rental car is ideal. Reine is located directly on the E10 European route, which runs through the entire archipelago. From Bodø on the mainland, you can easily reach Moskenes, which is in the same municipality as Reine, by car ferry. The ferry crossing takes about 3.5 to 4 hours and is free for foot passengers. In Reine, you will find designated parking facilities at "Ytre Havn" that charge a daily fee of 150 NOK for cars, payable at the visitor center. There is also a free parking alternative after a tunnel and a bridge, a bit further along the E10 towards Moskenes.
Pre-Cruise Hotel & Embarkation
Due to the long journey from the DACH region, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel is recommended. This allows you to start your cruise relaxed and gives you enough time to explore the idyllic surroundings of Reine. In Reine and nearby fishing villages such as Hamnøy or Sakrisøy, charming Rorbuer (traditional fishermen's cabins) and other accommodations are available. Embarkation in Reine usually takes place via tender boat directly from the ship to the central pier, from where you can easily reach your pre-cruise hotel or local sights.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will typically receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination area—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as berthing and departure times can change at short notice.
