Port information & tips for Molde
Molde, the picturesque "City of Roses," welcomes travelers to the Norwegian west coast with a spectacular backdrop and maritime flair. The city impresses with its sheltered location on the Romsdalsfjord and the famous panorama featuring over 222 partly snow-covered peaks, which enchants directly from the shore. Cultural highlights include the impressive Romsdal Open-Air Museum with its historical buildings and the modern Molde Cathedral, while the Varden viewpoint offers an incomparable far-reaching view. Cruise ships dock at the central Storkaia pier, located right in the heart of the city, which, thanks to its first-class location, provides convenient and direct access to shopping streets, cafés, and sights.
The Port of Molde impresses with its central location directly at the city center and, thanks to the clear structure of the Storkaia terminal, is a very comfortable starting point for cruises. Travel from the DACH region can be flexibly arranged and usually leads through the well-developed transport network of the Norwegian region of Møre og Romsdal.
Airplane
Molde Airport Årø (MOL) is located only six kilometers east of the city center and is regularly served via the Oslo (OSL) hub, which is approached directly from all major airports in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. From the airport, you can reach the cruise terminal easily by airport bus or taxi in a journey time of about ten to fifteen minutes.
Auto
Via the coastal road E39 and the impressive Atlantic Road (Fv64), travelers reach the heart of Molde and the port area directly. In the immediate vicinity of the terminal, public parking garages and long-term parking spaces are available, although due to the long distance from Central Europe, a relaxed arrival with overnight stays in Southern Norway or the use of ferries from Kiel or Denmark is recommended.
Train & Bus
Since Molde has no rail connection of its own, arrival by train takes place via the Åndalsnes station, about 50 kilometers away, which is the terminus of the picturesque Rauma Line from Oslo or Dombås. From there, modern scheduled buses lead in an approximately one-hour panoramic journey along the fjord directly to the central bus station of Molde, which is within easy walking distance of the cruise quay.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that with your travel documents, you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
