Port information & tips for Måløy
Måløy is a picturesque coastal gem on the Norwegian west coast and enchants visitors with its authentic maritime soul. The charming port town is located directly on the Ulvesund and offers an incomparable atmosphere between the wild Atlantic and majestic mountains thanks to its colorful wooden houses and the impressive fjord landscape. Highlights include the fascinating, mushroom-shaped Kannesteinen rock and the informative Måløy Raid Center, while the artistic street art murals throughout the city invite discovery. The cruise ships dock directly at the central Garpeskjærkaien, from where guests are in the heart of the city after just a few minutes' walk and can easily reach all local sights as well as cozy cafés.
Måløy is situated on the picturesque island of Vågsøy and is directly connected to the Norwegian mainland via the striking Måløy Bridge. The cruise terminal, Garpeskjærkaien, is located in the immediate vicinity of the city center, which allows for easy reach of all local attractions directly from the ship.
Airplane
For travelers from the DACH region, a flight to Ålesund Airport (AES) or the regional Sandane Airport (SDN) is recommended. From Ålesund, you can reach the port in about three to four hours by rental car or bus via the E39 and Rv15, while Sandane offers a quick connection to the terminal with short transfer times of around 90 minutes.
Car
Arrival with your own vehicle is via the Rv15 national road, which connects Måløy directly with the important North-South E6 motorway. Parking options for short-term and long-term parkers are available directly at the terminal as well as in the city center; additionally, the toll-free bridge connection ensures flexible accessibility to the island of Vågsøy.
Express Boat & Ferry
A particularly maritime and comfortable way to arrive is offered by the Norled express boat from Bergen, which travels up the coast in around 4.5 hours and docks directly in the center of Måløy. Furthermore, the port is a regular part of the Hurtigruten and Havila routes, allowing for a relaxed combination of a classic postal ship journey and a pre-cruise stay in one of the hotels at the harbor.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
