Port information & tips for Harstad

Harstad is nestled in the spectacular island world of Northern Norway and is considered the charming cultural heart of the Vesterålen region. The city delights visitors with its location right on the Vågsfjord and offers an inviting maritime flair thanks to a blend of modern architecture and untouched nature. Outstanding sights nearby include the medieval Trondenes Church, the informative Trondenes Historiske Senter, and the impressive Adolf Gun from World War II. Cruise ships typically use the central berth at the Larsneset quay, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the city center and allows for short walks to local cafés and galleries; furthermore, guests benefit from the direct accessibility of all highlights on foot or via a short transfer.

Harstad, a charming town in Northern Norway, is easily accessible for cruise passengers from the DACH region thanks to good regional connections and the nearby airport. The port features a centrally located terminal that allows for a convenient embarkation.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes (EVE), located approximately 45 kilometers from Harstad. This airport is served from Oslo (OSL) with several daily flights, providing a good connection from the DACH region with a layover. Rental cars, taxis, and a shuttle bus that completes the journey in about 45 minutes are available for the transfer from the airport to the port.

Auto

Harstad is well-connected to the Norwegian road network via the E10 European route, which runs through the Vesterålen and Lofoten regions. For those arriving from the south, taking the E6 to Bjerkvik and then the E10 is an option. Various parking options, including short-term parking lots and garages, are available in Harstad city center and near the harbor. For longer cruises, it is recommended to check parking options in advance, as special long-term park-and-cruise offers are not always found directly at the terminal.

Vorab-Hotel

Due to the travel time, especially for international flights with a connection, an overnight stay in Harstad the day before embarkation is highly recommended. The city offers a selection of hotels in the center, which are located in the immediate vicinity of the port. This allows for a relaxed start to the cruise and provides the opportunity to explore the charming surroundings of Harstad. Many hotels are within walking distance of the cruise terminal.

Check-in & Einschiffung

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly, and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination area—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
