Port information & tips for Hareid
Hareid is a charming gateway to the Norwegian islands and impresses with its authentic maritime atmosphere directly on the coast of Sunnmøre. Its idyllic location on the island of Hareidlandet promises visitors a harmonious blend of deep blue fjords and majestic mountain peaks, while the fresh sea breeze underscores the Scandinavian lifestyle. Special highlights include the picturesque Overåssanden beach and the fascinating Ishavsmuseet Aarvak, which brings the region's polar history to life. Additionally, the nearby viewpoint at Melshornet invites you to hike and enjoy spectacular panoramic views. Cruise ships dock at the centrally located Hareid Kai, from which the cozy town center and local amenities are easily accessible on foot in just a few minutes thanks to the short distances.
The cruise port of Hareid is picturesquely located on the island of Hareidlandet on the Norwegian west coast and is easily accessible despite its island location thanks to well-organized ferry connections and the nearby airport. The berths are located centrally in the town center, providing convenient access to local amenities.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Ålesund Airport Vigra (AES), located about 23 kilometers from Hareid. From there, comfortable transfer options are available: a combination of bus and express boat takes you to Hareid in around 1 hour 26 minutes to 1 hour 41 minutes. Alternatively, you can reach the port by car and car ferry in about one hour. For international guests from the DACH region, arriving the day before is recommended to start the cruise in a relaxed manner.
Car & Ferry Connections
Arriving with your own vehicle takes you via the Norwegian road network, with the island of Hareidlandet being excellently connected by regular ferry services. The main connection is the car ferry from Sulesund to Hareid, which takes about 23 minutes and runs frequently. After the ferry crossing, you reach the port directly. In the center of Hareid, near the pier, parking facilities are available, including special spaces for motorhomes with electricity hookups.
Arrival Recommendation & Local Transfers
For a stress-free embarkation, especially after longer flights from the DACH region, an overnight stay in Ålesund or in a hotel in Hareid before the day of departure is recommended. On-site, you benefit from short distances: the port is centrally located in the town, so shops and restaurants are within walking distance. In addition, local taxi companies and the public transport network, including express boat connections, provide flexible transfers, for example to Ålesund, which can be reached in just about 25 minutes by express boat.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as berthing and departure times can change at short notice.
