Port information & tips for Flåm (Aurlandsfjord)
Flåm is a picturesque jewel in the heart of the Norwegian fjord landscape and is located at the end of the spectacular Aurlandsfjord. Here, deep blue water and majestic mountain peaks meet, creating an incomparable Nordic idyll. Absolute highlights include the world-famous Flåmsbana, one of the steepest railway lines in the world, as well as the Stegastein viewpoint with its wide panoramic view over the fjord. In addition, the charming village center with the Flåm Railway Museum invites you to explore. Cruise ships dock directly at the Flåm Cruise Quay, allowing guests to arrive directly in the lively village center and conveniently reach all attractions as well as the train station in just a few minutes on foot thanks to the ideal location.
The Flåm cruise port is located at the end of the Aurlandsfjord and is characterized by its direct integration into the village center as well as its immediate proximity to the famous Flåmsbana. Ships dock at the central quay, allowing travelers to comfortably reach all major transport connections and sights within a few minutes' walk.
Train
Arriving by train is considered one of the most scenic routes in Europe, as the Flåmsbana connects the valley directly with the high mountain station of Myrdal. From there, connections are available to the Bergen Railway, which runs regularly between Oslo and Bergen, so that guests from the DACH region can comfortably transfer to the train after their flight and arrive directly opposite the cruise quay.
Airplane
The nearest international airport is Bergen (BGO), located approximately 165 kilometers away, which has good connections from Frankfurt, Munich, or Zurich. From there, you can reach the port in Flåm in about two and a half to three hours by rental car or private transfer via the E16, with the drive taking you through the impressive 24.5-kilometer-long Lærdal Tunnel.
Ferry & Express Boat
An attractive alternative to land travel is the express boat service operated by the Norled shipping company, which connects the city center of Bergen directly with Flåm. The journey takes about five and a half hours and leads through the Sognefjord to the pier in the village center, allowing travelers to enjoy the spectacular fjord world during the approach and arrive at the terminal stress-free.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
