Cruise port Vágur

Vágur on Suðuroy is a charming destination for smaller cruise ships and expedition voyages, offering a unique blend of rugged nature and vibrant culture. The terminal is centrally located, allowing guests to explore the town easily on foot, as Vágur serves exclusively as a port of call and does not provide infrastructure for the embarkation or disembarkation of passengers.

Airplane

Travel from the DACH region primarily takes place via Vágar Airport (FAE), the only airport in the Faroe Islands. Atlantic Airways connects Vágar directly with Copenhagen (CPH), Reykjavik-Keflavik (KEF), and seasonally with other European cities such as Oslo, Edinburgh, or Paris. Vágar Airport is located approximately 46 kilometers from the Faroese capital, Tórshavn, and can be reached from there in about 40 to 50 minutes by bus or taxi. A bus ride on line 300 to Tórshavn costs approximately 90 DKK and takes around 60 minutes. Alternatively, taxis are available, costing about 250 DKK for a shared ride to Tórshavn.

Ferry & Inter-island Travel

For travelers wishing to bring their own vehicle, the car ferry "Norröna" operated by Smyril Line connects the Danish port of Hirtshals with Tórshavn. The crossing takes approximately 30 to 40 hours. To reach Vágur on the island of Suðuroy, an inter-island ferry connection is necessary, as Suðuroy is not connected to the other main islands by roads or tunnels. From Tórshavn, the car ferry "Smyril" (Line 7) operates to Tvøroyri on Suðuroy, with the crossing taking about two hours. From Tvøroyri, you can easily reach Vágur in about 35 minutes using bus line 700. The public transport system of the Faroe Islands, consisting of buses and ferries, is operated by Strandfaraskip Landsins and enables good connectivity across the islands.

Local Arrival & Pre-cruise Accommodation Recommendation

Given the necessary ferry connection to Suðuroy and the often long international flights, we recommend arriving at least one day before embarkation, ideally with an overnight stay in Tórshavn or already on Suðuroy. Ships dock in Vágur directly at the commercial quay, which is located only about 350 to 400 meters from the town center. This provides passengers with direct access to the town's sights and facilities. Although Vágur, as a small port, has no designated "Park & Cruise" offers, local parking options for vehicles are available.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
