Port information & tips for Philadelphia (PA)

Philadelphia is the history-rich cradle of the United States and welcomes visitors with a fascinating blend of colonial heritage and modern urbanity. The metropolis on the Delaware River delights with its vibrant atmosphere and an impressive density of national historic landmarks. Absolute highlights include the legendary Liberty Bell, the historic Independence Hall, and the culinarily diverse Reading Terminal Market, all of which offer deep insights into American history. Cruise ships dock at the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal at Pier 1 in the Navy Yard, from where the bustling city center is easily accessible for extensive exploration tours thanks to short transfer times of about 15 to 20 minutes.

Philadelphia is a traditional cruise port on the US East Coast and impresses with its excellent connectivity in the Navy Yard district. The cruise terminal at Pier 1 is strategically located south of the city center and can be reached quickly and easily from both the airport and the major highways.

Airplane

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is located in the immediate vicinity and is only about 15 minutes' drive from the port. Guests from the DACH region take advantage of the good connections from Frankfurt or Munich and can easily reach the ship by taxi, Uber, or cruise line shuttle after landing. For intercontinental flights, arriving the day before and staying overnight in one of the nearby airport hotels is recommended.

Train

William H. Gray III 30th Street Station is the region's most important railway hub and offers excellent Amtrak connections along the Northeast Corridor. From the station, you can reach the terminal in the Navy Yard in around 20 minutes by taxi, making Philadelphia an ideal destination for travelers wishing to combine their cruise with a stay in New York or Washington D.C.

Car

Thanks to its direct connection to the I-95 (Exit 17) and I-76 highways, the port is easily accessible for drivers and rental car travelers. Secure outdoor parking spaces are available directly at Pier 1 for the duration of the cruise, and clear signs within the Navy Yard ensure stress-free navigation right up to the gates of the check-in area.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents will usually provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Please plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as berthing and departure times can change at short notice.
