Port information & tips for New York (NY)

New York City is arguably the most fascinating metropolis in the world and welcomes cruise passengers with one of the most iconic skylines on Earth. The entrance past the majestic Statue of Liberty promises goosebump moments and leads directly into the pulsating heart of Manhattan, where maritime history meets modern lifestyle. Highlights such as the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, the legendary Times Square, and the expansive Central Park are waiting to be discovered in the immediate vicinity of the berth. Cruise ships usually dock at the central Manhattan Cruise Terminal at Piers 88 or 90, which, thanks to its prime location in Hell’s Kitchen, offers immediate access to the city center while guaranteeing perfect connections to the public transport network.

New York offers three excellently connected points of call for cruise ships with the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, and the Cape Liberty Port in Bayonne. Thanks to its location in the heart of the metropolitan region, travelers from the DACH region reach their ships via a first-class infrastructure of international airports and well-developed highways.

Airplane

The large hubs John F. Kennedy International (JFK) and Newark Liberty International (EWR) are served several times daily with direct flights from Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, and Vienna and are located between 15 and 30 kilometers from the ports. While Newark is the ideal choice for departures from Cape Liberty, JFK and the domestic airport LaGuardia (LGA) offer short distances to the terminals in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Transfer & Highways

The Manhattan Cruise Terminal is directly accessible via the West Side Highway (NY-9A), while the Cape Liberty Terminal is connected via the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95). From the airports, you can comfortably reach the ship in about 30 to 60 minutes by taxi, app-based ride services, or cruise line shuttle, with the drive across the bridges and tunnels providing a first impressive view of the skyline.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long flight time and to buffer any potential delays, a hotel stay before the cruise is highly recommended. Accommodations in Midtown Manhattan, Downtown Brooklyn, or Jersey City are in close proximity to the terminals and, thanks to short transfer routes, allow for a relaxed start to your vacation without time pressure on embarkation day.
