New Orleans is the vibrant gateway to the Mississippi and one of the most culturally rich cities in the USA. The city captivates with its unique mix of jazz rhythms, Creole cuisine, and the nostalgic charm of the South. Thanks to its central location, travelers can reach world-famous highlights such as the historic French Quarter, the picturesque Jackson Square, and the renowned National WWII Museum in no time. Cruise ships dock at the modern Erato Street or Julia Street Cruise Terminal, which are located directly on the banks of the Mississippi. From here, a short walk or a ride on the historic streetcar leads directly into the heart of the Old Town, making the port an ideal starting point for exploration.
The cruise port of New Orleans impresses with its central location directly on the Mississippi River and its immediate proximity to the historic center. The two modern terminals, Erato Street and Julia Street, are located in the Warehouse District and are excellently integrated into the city's infrastructure.
Airplane
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is located about 25 kilometers west of the port and is usually accessed from the DACH region with a connection through major hubs such as Atlanta, Chicago, or New York. From the airport, you can easily reach your ship by taxi at a flat rate of approximately 36 US dollars or with the cruise lines' shuttle services in around 30 to 45 minutes.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time from Europe and the time difference, we recommend arriving at least one day before embarkation. Many hotels in the French Quarter or the Warehouse District are located just minutes from the terminals; additionally, some houses offer special Park & Cruise packages that already include the transfer to the port.
Car
Via the Interstate 10 and Highway 90 motorways, you can reach the terminals directly via well-signposted exits towards the Convention Center. Secure parking garages are available directly at the building at both the Erato Street Terminal and the Julia Street Terminal, which allows for a particularly comfortable check-in thanks to short distances and immediate luggage drop-off.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
