Kodiak, known as Alaska's picturesque "Emerald Isle," welcomes travelers with an untouched wilderness and a fascinating history. The second-largest island in the USA impresses with its dramatic coastline and an authentic atmosphere that remains palpable everywhere thanks to the deeply rooted fishing tradition and the indigenous Alutiiq culture. Cultural highlights in the immediate vicinity include the iconic Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Cathedral with its distinctive blue domes, the Alutiiq Museum, and the Kodiak History Museum. Cruise ships dock at the central Pier 2 (City Dock), from where the charming city center can be easily reached in about fifteen minutes on foot along the waterfront promenade, while also providing direct access to local craft shops and cafes.
The picturesque port of Kodiak on the island of the same name in the Gulf of Alaska is an exclusive destination and is primarily docked by cruise ships at Pier 2 in the city center. Since the island is only accessible by air or sea, guests can enjoy impressive views of the rugged coastline and untouched nature upon arrival.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region typically takes place via Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) with a connecting flight to Kodiak Airport (ADQ). The island airport is located only about eight kilometers south of the city, so you can easily reach the Pier 2 cruise terminal in around 10 to 15 minutes by taxi or a local shuttle service.
Ferry
A charming alternative to flying is the Alaska Marine Highway System, which connects Kodiak to the mainland by sea. The ferries start, for example, in Homer or Seward and dock directly in St. Paul Harbor, from where the cruise piers can be reached quickly thanks to their central location in the city area.

Due to the weather-dependent flight conditions in Alaska and the long journey from Europe, an overnight stay before embarkation is highly recommended. Local accommodations in the charming town center of Kodiak allow for a stress-free start to the cruise and often offer direct transfers to the port as well as the opportunity to explore the famous Kodiak bear region in advance.
