Kings Wharf is the impressive gateway to the Bermuda Islands, located in the historic Royal Naval Dockyard at the western tip of the archipelago. The atmosphere is characterized by majestic fortifications, turquoise waters, and a charming mix of British colonial heritage and modern island flair. In the immediate vicinity, you will find first-class attractions such as the National Museum of Bermuda, the Clocktower Mall with its boutiques, and the crystal-clear Snorkel Park Beach. Cruise ships dock at the modern Heritage Wharf or directly at the eponymous Kings Wharf pier. From here, guests can reach the center of the capital, Hamilton, in a short time thanks to efficient fast ferries, while also enjoying convenient access to the island's famous pink sand beaches.
The port of Kings Wharf is located in the historic Royal Naval Dockyard at the western tip of Bermuda and serves as the main gateway for large cruise ships with its two modern piers, Kings Wharf and Heritage Wharf. Since Bermuda is an archipelago in the Atlantic, arrival from the DACH region is exclusively by plane followed by a land or water transfer to the terminal.
Airplane
Arrival from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland leads to L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA), the island's only international airport. Since there are no direct connections from Central Europe, you can reach Bermuda conveniently with a stopover in London Heathrow or via North American hubs such as New York (JFK/EWR), Boston, or Philadelphia. The airport is located at the eastern end of the island, approximately 36 kilometers from the cruise port.
Transfer & Shuttle
For the trip from the airport to the Royal Naval Dockyard, guests ideally use one of the available taxis, which take about 60 to 90 minutes for the journey across the island. Since classic rental cars for tourists are not allowed on Bermuda, these licensed taxis and pre-reserved minibus shuttles represent the most reliable connection. Alternatively, travelers with light luggage can take a transfer to Hamilton and from there arrive directly at the terminal's harbor basin in just 20 minutes by fast ferry.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time and the time difference, arriving at least one day before embarkation is highly recommended. A stay in the capital Hamilton or in one of the resorts on the famous South Shore allows for a relaxed start to the vacation and also offers the opportunity to explore the pink sand beaches or the historic Dockyard site in advance. Many hotels also support their guests in organizing private transfers directly to the ship.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
