Returning to the ship

Bluff, New Zealand's southernmost cruise port, welcomes you with rugged coastal beauty at the southern tip of the South Island. Although it is a smaller working port without a dedicated cruise terminal, it is easily accessible thanks to good connections to Invercargill. Most ships tender passengers ashore, from where a short walk or shuttle leads into the charming town center.

Airplane

For travelers from the DACH region, arriving by plane is the most common option. After a long-haul flight to Auckland (AKL) or Christchurch (CHC), a connecting flight to Invercargill Airport (IVC), the nearest airport, is recommended. This is located approximately 21 to 29 kilometers from Bluff and is mainly served by Air New Zealand.

Transfer to the Port

From Invercargill Airport (IVC) or the city center, you can easily reach Bluff by taxi or pre-booked shuttle. A taxi ride takes about 22 minutes and costs between 120 and 150 NZD. Additionally, there are bus transfers, which are often coordinated with ferry departures to Stewart Island and pick up passengers from the airport or central points in Invercargill.

Arrival by Car & Pre-Cruise Hotel

Bluff is accessible via State Highway 1 (SH1), which begins at the southern tip of New Zealand and offers a scenic drive from Invercargill. Specific long-term parking options for cruise guests are limited at the Port of Bluff. Due to the long journey from Europe, it is advisable to arrive in Invercargill at least one day before embarkation and book a hotel there to start your cruise adventure relaxed.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
