Port information & tips for San Sebastian (Gomera)
San Sebastián de La Gomera is the charming island capital and serves as a history-steeped gateway to the wild nature of the Canary Islands. The port is idyllically situated at the foot of steep cliffs and enchants visitors with its relaxed, authentic flair and the traces of Christopher Columbus. Cultural highlights in the immediate vicinity include the historic Torre del Conde defensive tower, the magnificent Iglesia de la Asunción, and the Casa de Colón museum, where the famous explorer once stayed. Cruise ships dock at the central berth of the Puerto de San Sebastián de La Gomera, from where the picturesque old town with its colorful alleys and promenades can be easily reached in just a few minutes on foot.
The port of San Sebastián de La Gomera impresses with its central location right in the heart of the island's capital and is optimally connected to the international transport network thanks to excellent ferry connections to the neighboring island of Tenerife. The modern terminal is located directly by the city center, allowing you to easily reach all important facilities and your cruise ship on foot after arrival.
Airplane & Ferry
Guests from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland primarily use Tenerife South Airport (TFS), as it is served regularly and directly from all major airports in the DACH region. From the airport, you can reach the port of Los Cristianos in about 15 to 20 minutes by car, from where the fast ferries of the Fred. Olsen Express or Naviera Armas shipping companies dock directly in the port of San Sebastián in about a 50-minute crossing.
Car & Parking
The port is excellently connected to the rest of the island via the main roads GM-1 and GM-2 and offers direct access for individual travelers with a rental car. For the duration of your cruise, guarded parking facilities and long-term parking areas such as the La Hila parking lot are available in the immediate vicinity of the terminal; additionally, short-term parking zones directly at the quay allow for relaxed unloading of luggage.
Transfer & Pre-Cruise Hotel
For smooth organization, you can book combined transfer services that coordinate bus transport from Tenerife South Airport, including the ferry passage to the cruise terminal in San Sebastián. Due to the dependence on ferry times, an arrival the day before with an overnight stay in San Sebastián is also recommended to enjoy the city's historical charm at leisure and walk directly to embarkation the next day.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the shipping company and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
