Port information & tips for La Coruña
La Coruña is a fascinating jewel on the wild and romantic coast of Galicia in northwest Spain. The port city impresses with its maritime flair and the famous "Galerías" – glass-fronted balconies that have earned it the nickname "City of Glass." Impressive highlights include the legendary Torre de Hércules, which is the oldest Roman lighthouse in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as the magnificent Plaza de María Pita and the historic Castillo de San Antón. Cruise ships dock directly at the central Muelle de Trasatlánticos, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the lively city center. Thanks to this prime location, visitors can easily reach the charming old town and the inviting shopping miles within just a few minutes' walk from the terminal.
The cruise port of La Coruña impresses with its excellent location right in the heart of the city at Muelle de Trasatlánticos and is well-developed for travelers from the DACH region thanks to a modern infrastructure. The central Palexco terminal allows for quick access to the historic old town and uncomplicated handling of the embarkation processes.
Airplane
A Coruña Airport (LCG) is located only about 10 kilometers from the port and offers comfortable connections for guests from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland via hubs such as Madrid. The onward journey to the terminal is easily made by taxi in around 15 minutes or with bus line 4051. In addition, the larger Santiago de Compostela Airport (SCQ), around 65 kilometers away, is served directly from cities such as Frankfurt or Munich, from where direct bus connections reach the port city in about 50 minutes.
Train
The main railway station A Coruña-San Cristóbal functions as an important hub and is directly connected to Madrid and other Spanish metropolises by modern high-speed trains. From the station, you can reach the terminal in only about 10 minutes by taxi; in addition, regular city bus lines such as 1, 1A, or 14 are available, taking passengers directly to the central port area.
Car
The port is directly accessible via the A-6 highway and the AG-55 coastal motorway, offering drivers an uncomplicated journey to the Muelle de Trasatlánticos. Guarded parking garages with long-term options are located directly at the cruise terminal and the integrated Los Cantones shopping center; furthermore, the central parking spaces allow for a short walk directly to the ship's check-in.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your arrival at the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination area—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
