Port information & tips for Algeciras

Algeciras is strategically located at the sunny southern tip of Spain and serves as a fascinating gateway between Europe and Africa. The city captivates with its authentic maritime charm in the Bay of Algeciras and offers an incomparable experience thanks to its lively atmosphere and spectacular views of the majestic Rock of Gibraltar. Cultural highlights in the immediate vicinity include the colorful Plaza Alta with the church of Nuestra Señora de la Palma, the bustling Mercado de Abastos, and the green Parque María Cristina. Cruise ships dock at the modern Estación Marítima in the Puerto de Algeciras, which is within easy walking distance of the city center and also provides ideal connections for exploring the entire region.

Algeciras, located at the southern tip of Andalusia, is a major passenger and commercial port and forms an important link between Europe and North Africa. Thanks to its central location in the city area, the port is easily accessible and has a well-developed infrastructure for passengers in a single ferry terminal.

Car

The port of Algeciras is excellently connected to the Spanish road network and is therefore easily accessible from the entire DACH region. You can easily reach the port via the Autovía A-7 (E-15), which connects Algeciras with Málaga and the Costa del Sol, or via the N-340 national road from Tarifa and Cádiz. Simply follow the signs for "Puerto / Estación Marítima" or "Ferries a Ceuta y Tánger Med". Various public parking lots and private parking garages are available directly at the port and in its vicinity, including the covered COPARK Estación Marítima (Larga Estancia) and Parking Saba Estación Tren Algeciras, which is only a 15-minute walk from the ferry terminal and is open 24 hours. The cost for one day is approximately 20 euros, while three days cost just under 40 euros. It is recommended to reserve parking spaces in advance, especially during the high season.

Airplane

For international arrivals from the DACH region, Málaga Airport (AGP) is the preferred choice as it is regularly served by many European cities. Málaga Airport is located approximately 128 to 131 kilometers from Algeciras. From there, various comfortable transfer options are available: A taxi or private transfer will take you directly to the port in about 1 hour 30 to 35 minutes via the AP-7 toll highway, with costs for a standard vehicle (up to 4 passengers) starting at around 156 euros. There are also direct bus connections from Málaga Airport to Algeciras; the journey takes about 2 hours 6 minutes and costs between 17 and 25 euros. An arrival the day before is recommended due to the flight duration and transfer, in order to start your cruise relaxed. Gibraltar Airport (GIB) is geographically closer but offers fewer direct connections from the DACH region.

Train

Algeciras railway station (RENFE) is in an extremely convenient location, only about 300 to 500 meters or approximately 1.5 kilometers from the ferry port. You can easily reach the terminal from there on foot in a few minutes. There are direct train connections from Ronda, Córdoba, and Madrid, thanks to the Bobadilla-Algeciras railway line. Directly opposite the station is also the central bus station of Algeciras, which offers further regional connections to Cádiz, Málaga, and Sevilla, among others. From both stations, you can also quickly reach the port entrance by local taxi if needed.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
