Port information & tips for Savona
Savona is the glamorous gateway to the Italian Riviera and a significant hub for cruises in the western Mediterranean. The charming port city impresses with its Ligurian elegance, winding alleys in the old town, and a maritime atmosphere that invites you to linger and relax. Located in the immediate vicinity of the port are impressive highlights such as the imposing Fortezza del Priamar, the historic landmark Torre Leon Pancaldo, and the magnificent Cattedrale dell'Assunta. Cruise ships dock at the modern Palacrociere terminal, which serves as an ideal starting point thanks to its central location. Via a convenient pedestrian bridge, guests can reach the lively city center with its diverse shopping streets and cultural treasures in just a few minutes' walk.
Savona is perfectly prepared for cruise guests as a major base port for Costa Cruises at the modern Palacrociere terminal and can be reached flexibly from the DACH region. Thanks to its location on the Ligurian coast, travelers benefit from an excellent infrastructure for individual or organized arrival.
Car
Via the A10 and A6 motorways, drivers can reach the port city directly, with the Savona exit leading immediately into the center. The official parking area of the Consorzio Savona Crociere is located directly at the terminal and offers travelers the possibility to park their vehicles safely in guarded long-term parking spaces. In addition, other Park & Cruise providers with practical shuttle services are available in the vicinity.
Train
Savona railway station is an important hub and is very well connected to the European rail network thanks to regular connections via Milan or Nice. The distance to the cruise terminal is only two kilometers, so guests can easily reach the embarkation in a few minutes by taxi or with the frequently running line 7 buses. For relaxed planning, an overnight stay in one of the charming hotels in Savona's old town is recommended for long journeys.
Airplane & Transfer
The nearest airport, Genoa (GOA), is located around 45 kilometers east of Savona and is frequently used for charter and scheduled flights. In addition, the larger airports in Nice (NCE) and Milan-Malpensa (MXP) offer comprehensive international connections, from which organized bus transfers by the cruise lines or private shuttles enable a comfortable onward journey to the port. At the same time, arrival at these airports offers the opportunity to combine the vacation with a pre-stay on the Italian Riviera.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your arrival at the port accordingly and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as berthing and departure times can change at short notice.
