Returning to the ship

Gaeta, a charming coastal town in Lazio, Italy, is easily accessible thanks to its convenient location between Rome and Naples. Cruise ships dock directly in the city center, allowing for short distances for passengers.

Car

Gaeta is easily reached via the Italian A1 motorway. Coming from the direction of Naples, take the Cassino exit and then follow Via Ausonia towards Formia/Gaeta, a drive of about 40 kilometers. Please note the "Zona a Traffico Limitato" (ZTL) in the historic center, whose access rules vary depending on the season; blue lines indicate paid parking spaces outside the ZTL. Public parking options are available at Piazzale Traniello or outside the historic core, with private providers offering 24/7 parking spaces.

Train

The nearest train station is Formia-Gaeta (Stazione di Formia-Gaeta), about 8 kilometers from the port. This station is well-connected to the national rail network thanks to the Rome-Naples railway line and also offers Intercity connections. From Formia-Gaeta station, you can easily reach the cruise terminal by one of the regular buses or a taxi. Local transfer services such as Gaeta Taxi Service are available for comfortable journeys.

Airplane

Two major airports are available for international arrivals from the DACH region: Naples Airport (NAP) is located approximately 70.5 kilometers away and can be reached in around 1 hour 36 minutes by car. Rome-Fiumicino Airport (FCO), with a larger range of direct flights, is located about 128 kilometers from Gaeta and the journey takes approximately 2 hours 24 minutes. Private transfer services are available from both airports to take you directly to the port. For a relaxed embarkation, especially when arriving via Rome-Fiumicino, an overnight stay in Gaeta or the surrounding area on the day before the cruise is recommended.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
