Port information & tips for Catania (Sicily)
Catania is the pulsating soul of the Sicilian east coast and is magnificently situated at the foot of majestic Mount Etna. Cruise ships dock directly at the Stazione Marittima at the Sporgente Centrale, from where the historic old town is within easy reach in just around ten minutes on foot thanks to its central location. The cruise port of Catania is located right at the foot of Mount Etna and impresses with its central location immediately adjacent to the historic city center. The terminals at Molo di Levante and Sporgente Centrale are excellently integrated into Sicily's infrastructure thanks to their proximity to the international airport and the main train station.
Airplane
Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) is located only about seven kilometers from the port and is served by direct flights from many German, Austrian, and Swiss cities such as Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, or Zurich. The trip to the ship takes about 15 minutes by taxi; additionally, the Alibus shuttle connects the airport directly with the port area and the city center every 25 minutes.
Car & Parking
The port of Catania is well-connected to the long-distance road network via the A18 motorway from the direction of Messina and the A19 from Palermo, and is easily accessible via the Catania Porto exit. Travelers will find secure parking facilities such as the Parcheggio del Porto directly on the port grounds, with many providers offering convenient Park & Cruise options including luggage service and a short transfer to the terminal.
Train & Pre-Cruise Hotel
Catania Centrale main station is located about two kilometers from the port entrance and offers regular regional connections as well as long-distance links to the Italian mainland. Due to the impressive Baroque old town and the proximity to Mount Etna, an overnight stay in one of the city hotels is recommended to start the embarkation the next day completely relaxed and with initial cultural impressions.

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
