Port information & tips for Volos
Volos is the legendary gateway to the world of the Argonauts and one of the most charming port cities on the Pagasetic Gulf. The city impresses with its picturesque location at the foot of Mount Pelion and a lively waterfront promenade that invites you to enjoy traditional tsipouradika and Mediterranean flair. Nearby attractions include the renowned Archaeological Museum of Volos, the impressive Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, and the authentic replica of the ancient ship Argo. Cruise ships dock at the central pier of the Port of Volos, from where the vibrant city center and the elegant pedestrian zone are easily accessible in a short walk of just a few minutes thanks to the ideal location.
The Port of Volos is centrally located on the Pagasetic Gulf and impresses with short distances between the city center and the two modern cruise terminals. Thanks to its convenient location at the foot of the Pelion Mountains, the port is easily accessible for guests from the DACH region via the Greek trunk road network as well as via nearby airports.
Airplane
Nea Anchialos Airport (VOL) is located only 30 kilometers from the terminal and is served during the summer season with direct connections from various European cities. Thessaloniki Airport (SKG), located approximately 215 kilometers away, serves as the most important year-round hub, offering numerous daily direct flights from Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, and Zurich, and allowing for onward travel by rental car or shuttle in around two hours.
Car & Parking
Travelers can reach Volos directly via the central Greek A1 motorway (PATHE) and access the port facilities via well-signposted entrances. Guarded long-term parking spaces are available directly at the port grounds from providers such as Cityzen; additionally, further public parking garages are located in the immediate vicinity of the terminal, guaranteeing secure accommodation for your vehicle throughout the entire cruise.
Train & Transfer
Volos Railway Station is located only about 1.5 kilometers from the port and is connected to the main line between Athens and Thessaloniki via the important railway hub of Larissa. From there, guests can easily reach the terminal in a few minutes by taxi or a short walk along the waterfront promenade; additionally, many cruise lines offer organized bus transfers directly from Thessaloniki Airport.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Accordingly, plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
