Skopelos is the green pearl of the Northern Sporades, welcoming travelers with a picturesque backdrop of deep blue sea and densely forested hills. The port town of Skopelos Town captivates with its traditional charm, featuring white-washed houses, flower-adorned alleys, and a relaxed Greek atmosphere. Perched directly on the shore are the striking Panagitsa tou Pyrgou church and the ruins of the Venetian castle, both of which offer fantastic views over the bay and are easily accessible on foot. Cruise ships dock at the central pier of the port of Skopelos, allowing guests to immerse themselves immediately in the lively hustle and bustle of the waterfront promenade and the historic center thanks to the prime location.
Skopelos, one of the picturesque islands of the Northern Sporades, does not have its own airport and is therefore only accessible by ferry. For cruise guests from the DACH region, arrival is via nearby airports on neighboring islands or the mainland, followed by a relaxed crossing.
Airplane
The closest and most relevant airport for your arrival is Skiathos International Airport (JSI), also known as "Alexandros Papadiamantis". From there, a short taxi ride of about five minutes will take you to the port of Skiathos, which is only around 3 kilometers away. Alternatively, flights to the mainland airports of Volos (VOL) or Athens (ATH) are available, though these require a longer journey to the respective ferry port.
Ferry
The ferry is the central link to the island of Skopelos. From the port of Skiathos, there are regular connections to the ports of Skopelos Town (Chora) or Glossa (Loutraki) on Skopelos. The crossing takes between 15 and 70 minutes, depending on the type of ship and destination port. Faster catamaran connections can cover the distance in just 15 minutes. From the mainland, you can depart from Volos, with the journey taking about 1 hour 45 minutes by fast ferry and up to 3 hours 50 minutes by conventional ferry. Another option is the ferry connection from Mantoudi on Euboea, which offers an average travel time of about 1 hour 50 minutes, with the fastest connection to Glossa taking only 40 minutes. Skopelos has three ports: the main port in Skopelos Town, Loutraki (Glossa) in the northwest, and Agnontas on the southwest coast; all larger ships dock at the new port of Skopelos Town.
Pre-Cruise Hotel & Transfers
Due to the necessary ferry connections and potential flight times, it is recommended to spend at least one night before your cruise in a pre-cruise hotel on Skiathos or directly on Skopelos. This allows for a relaxed arrival and avoids stress caused by possible delays. Taxis and shuttles to the port are available from Skiathos Airport (JSI). At mainland ports such as Volos, Mantoudi, and Agios Konstantinos, you will also find parking facilities for short and long-term parkers if you are arriving by rental car. In Skopelos Town itself, there is also a public parking lot near the harbor.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
