Pylos is an ideal port for exploration on foot, as the town center and the central square directly border the pier. Within a few minutes, you can reach the main sights and the Neokastro fortress while enjoying the view of the coastal promenade.
Taxi
Local taxis are available immediately at the main square and will take you quickly to nearby destinations such as the Palace of Nestor or the Methoni Fortress. The drivers are well-organized and also offer comfortable rides to the archaeological sites in the surrounding area.
Buses & excursion boats
The KTEL intercity buses regularly connect Pylos with the surrounding villages and offer an affordable connection to the Messenia region. Small excursion boats also depart directly from the harbor, allowing you to easily reach the historical island of Sfaktiria or hidden swimming coves in the vicinity.

Platia Trion Navarchon
The central square of Pylos impresses with its majestic plane trees and surrounding arcades, which offer a wonderful atmosphere for a Greek coffee and also provide direct access to the city's picturesque alleys.
Niokastro Fortress
This extensive fortress complex is located directly above the harbor and is easily accessible thanks to short distances; it also houses interesting exhibitions and simultaneously offers one of the most beautiful views of the deep blue Ionian Sea.
Voidokilia Beach
This characteristic bay is considered one of the most spectacular beaches in Greece and, thanks to its unique horseshoe shape and crystal-clear water, is an ideal destination for an unforgettable nature stop in the immediate vicinity of the harbor.
Neokastro Fortress
The impressive Neokastro fortress is located just a short, approximately ten-minute walk from the harbor and offers one of the most striking views over the entire Bay of Navarino. Within the well-preserved walls, you can explore the historic Church of the Savior and the interesting Archaeological Museum at your leisure, while also enjoying the pleasant tranquility beneath the shady pine trees. Ideally, visit the site in the morning to experience the special atmosphere before the warm midday hours, and plan some time afterward for a cool Frappé on the lively, plane-tree-lined Platia right at the harbor.
The journey back to the port of Pylos is extremely relaxed and safe thanks to the central location of the pier right in the heart of the city. Since Pylos is often visited as a tender port, you can easily reach the quay at the central square and board the waiting tender boats directly there.
Taxi
You can easily find taxis in Pylos at the central square, Plateia Trion Navarchon, which is located just a few meters from the port. In addition, staff in the cafes at the harbor square can call a taxi at any time if you wish to travel back comfortably from more remote locations such as the Neokastro fortress or Gialova beach.
Local Buses & Transfer
The regional KTEL buses also stop at the main square and offer regular connections from excursion destinations such as Methoni or the Palace of Nestor directly back to the center. Thanks to the short distances, you can reach the quay where the boats are ready for transfer to the ship in just a few minutes from the drop-off point.
On Foot
Pylos can be wonderfully explored on foot and the way back almost always leads downhill to the picturesque harbor basin. Thanks to the good orientation provided by the prominent waterfront promenade and the clear structure of the city, you will find your way back directly to the pier from the fortress or the shopping streets without any detours.
