For travelers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, this is the most important arrival point on Crete. Sitia Airport (JSH) is closer (about 35 km) but offers fewer international flight connections.

Agios Nikolaos is well-connected via the New National Road (E75), also known as the A90, along the north coast of Crete. From Heraklion, the journey takes about one hour. Parking facilities are available at the port of Agios Nikolaos as well as in the nearby marina. The Agios Nikolaos Marina offers free parking spaces for cars and trailers; additionally, there is a paid parking lot with affordable daily rates of about 3 euros, which is ideal for long-term parkers. Access to the ferry terminal is easily possible by vehicle.
