Zadar is a radiant jewel on the Croatian Adriatic coast and impressively combines millennia of history with modern coastal flair. The picturesque old town on a peninsula inspires with its lively atmosphere and offers a unique open-air museum thanks to its Roman ruins and medieval churches. Highlights include the world-famous Sea Organ, the glowing artwork "Greeting to the Sun," and the historic round church of Sveti Donat directly on the Forum. Larger cruise ships dock at the modern Zadar Cruise Port in Gaženica, which is located about 3.5 kilometers south of the center. Thanks to regular shuttle buses and taxis, guests can easily reach the historic city center in just a few minutes and immediately immerse themselves in the Dalmatian way of life.
The Port of Zadar, with its modern Gaženica cruise terminal, is a key hub on the Croatian Adriatic coast and is excellently accessible for guests from the DACH region. The facility is located about four kilometers south of the historic city center and offers a contemporary infrastructure for a smooth embarkation.
Car
Arriving by private car is convenient via the Croatian A1 motorway, which connects Zadar directly to the European long-distance road network toward Austria and Germany. At the Gaženica terminal, spacious long-term parking spaces are available directly at the pier; furthermore, well-developed feeder roads from the Zadar-centar or Zadar-istok exits lead straight to the port without detours.
Airplane
Zadar Airport (ZAD) is located only twelve kilometers from the cruise terminal and is served by direct flights from numerous cities such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, or Vienna during the season. From the arrival hall, you can reach the ship in about 15 minutes by taxi or use the regular shuttle bus service connecting the airport with the port.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the picturesque Old Town and the location of the port, an overnight stay in Zadar is recommended to experience the world-famous Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun before departure. Many hotels in the city center or the nearby Borik district organize private transfers to the Gaženica terminal, allowing for a relaxed start to the cruise without time pressure on embarkation day.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
