Port information & tips for Vukovar

Vukovar is the significant cultural center of eastern Croatia and a fascinating stop for river cruises along the Danube. The historic city impresses with its Baroque architecture and its picturesque location directly on the riverbank, which offers visitors a warm atmosphere and expansive views. Outstanding sights include the magnificent Baroque Eltz Manor, which today houses the city museum, the iconic Vukovar Water Tower, and the Franciscan Monastery of St. Philip and James. Cruise ships dock at the central pier "Putničko pristanište Vukovar", from where the historic old town and the inviting river promenade can be easily explored on foot in just a few steps thanks to the prime location.

Vukovar, located on the banks of the Danube, is a significant river port in Croatia and is easily accessible from the DACH region. Arrival is comfortable thanks to good transport connections and manageable distances.

Car

Vukovar is well connected to the Croatian road network. From the direction of Zagreb, you can reach the city easily via the A3 motorway (E70) heading east, followed by the D55 or D2 national roads. For travelers from Austria or southern Germany, the route via Slovenia and Hungary (e.g., M6) is a good option before entering Croatia. Parking is generally available in the port area; details regarding long-term parking should be requested from the respective cruise line or local providers.

Train

Vukovar railway station is located relatively centrally in the city. There are train connections to Vukovar from larger cities in Croatia, such as Zagreb. For travelers from the DACH region, arriving by train usually involves several transfers, for example via Vienna or Budapest. From Vukovar station, you can reach the river port terminal in just a few minutes comfortably by taxi or bus.

Airplane

The nearest major airport is Osijek (OSI), approximately 20 kilometers from Vukovar. This airport is mainly used for domestic flights and some charter flights. For international arrivals from the DACH region, Zagreb Airport (ZAG) is the primary choice, with direct flights from many German, Austrian, and Swiss cities. From Zagreb, you can reach Vukovar either by rental car (approx. 2.5 hours driving time) or by train/bus. Alternatively, Belgrade Airport (BEG) in Serbia can be considered, which is about 140 kilometers away and offers good connections. Transfers from Belgrade to Vukovar are possible by bus or taxi. Arriving the day before is recommended for long-haul flights or late arrival times to ensure a relaxed start to the cruise.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
