Opatija is the elegant "Pearl of the Adriatic" and impresses with its glamorous Belle Époque charm on the Croatian Kvarner Bay. The city enchants visitors with magnificent villas, blooming gardens, and an aristocratic atmosphere that recalls the era of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy while radiating a modern holiday flair. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the famous Lungomare coastal path, the iconic "Maiden with the Seagull" statue, and the magnificent Villa Angiolina with its botanical park. Cruise ships usually use the central pier at the "Mulo" quay in the port of Opatija. Thanks to this first-class location in the city center, guests can easily reach the historic old town, exclusive cafés, and all sights within a few minutes' walk directly after leaving the ship.

Opatija, the "Pearl of the Adriatic," is a popular embarkation port for smaller cruise ships and yachts, which usually tender at a central pier. The port area is excellently connected and allows for a convenient arrival from the DACH region.

Car

The journey to Opatija is straightforward thanks to the well-developed road infrastructure. From the direction of Slovenia and Italy, you can reach Opatija via the Rupa (Jelšane) border crossing. Coming from Zagreb, the A1 motorway leads directly towards Rijeka, from where Opatija is quickly accessible. In Opatija itself, public, mostly paid parking facilities as well as hotel parking spaces are available; advanced reservation is recommended, especially for multi-day parking.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Rijeka (RJK) on the island of Krk, about 24 to 42 kilometers from Opatija. The transfer time is only about 35 to 40 minutes thanks to taxi and private shuttle services, such as HB Transfer or GoOpti, with costs starting from approx. €80 for a standard vehicle. Further options include Pula Airport (PUY) at a distance of approx. 57-100 kilometers (approx. 70 minutes travel time) or Zagreb Airport (ZAG) at a distance of about 144-181 kilometers (approx. 2 hours travel time). For long-haul flights, an overnight stay in one of the charming hotels in Opatija is recommended to start the cruise in a relaxed manner.

Train

Although Opatija does not have its own main station, the nearest station is Opatija-Matulji, which is located outside the direct city center. Often, Rijeka Main Station (Željeznički kolodvor), which is only about 13 kilometers away, allows for a more convenient arrival. From there, regular buses run to Opatija, taking you directly to the city center in about 20 to 25 minutes. A taxi ride from Rijeka to Opatija takes approx. 18 minutes.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
