Nuuk is the charming capital of Greenland and impressively combines Arctic wilderness with modern Nordic urbanity. The world's northernmost capital is spectacularly situated at the mouth of a vast fjord system and delights visitors with rows of colorful houses and a breathtaking mountain backdrop. Cultural highlights include the Greenland National Museum and the architecturally striking Katuaq cultural center, which simultaneously reflects the fascinating play of the Northern Lights. Cruise ships dock at Nuuk Atlanthavn (Atlantic Harbour), which is located about two kilometers from the city center. Thanks to comfortable shuttle connections and well-developed paths, the lively center with its exclusive boutiques can also be reached comfortably and quickly at any time.
Nuuk is the central starting point for expedition cruises in the Arctic and welcomes guests at the modern Atlanthavnen, located about two kilometers from the city center. Since the Greenlandic road network does not connect cities, arrival from the DACH region is exclusively by air to this remote but well-organized port.
Airplane
Travel usually leads from major hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, or Zurich via Copenhagen (CPH) or Reykjavik (KEF) directly to Nuuk Airport (GOH). It is located only about six kilometers northeast of the cruise terminal and is currently being extensively expanded to allow for even more international direct connections in the future and to further improve the accessibility of the capital.
Transfer & Taxi
From Nuuk Airport, you can comfortably reach the port by taxi within ten to fifteen minutes, with providers such as Taxagut or Nuuk Taxa offering reliable services. In addition, many cruise lines offer coordinated shuttle transfers directly from the arrival hall, and local bus line 3 also connects the airport to the city center and points near the harbor at short intervals.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the special climatic conditions and the dependence on flight connections, we recommend arriving at least one day before embarkation and staying overnight in one of the central hotels such as Hotel Hans Egede. This ensures a relaxed start to the cruise and also provides a wonderful opportunity to explore cultural sights such as the National Museum or the award-winning Katuaq Cultural Centre at your leisure beforehand.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
