Nanortalik is the southernmost town in Greenland and is considered a fascinating gateway to the Arctic wilderness at the entrance to the spectacular Tasermiut Fjord. The settlement impresses with an authentic atmosphere as well as colorful wooden houses that form a picturesque contrast to the massive icebergs and steep granite peaks. Cultural highlights in the immediate vicinity include the Nanortalik Open Air Museum with its historic buildings and the iconic red wooden church, while the untouched nature simultaneously invites discovery. As cruise ships anchor in the sheltered bay, guests can easily reach the central pier directly in the port of Nanortalik by tender boat. From here, the compact town center is within easy walking distance in five to ten minutes thanks to short distances.
Nanortalik in South Greenland is a remote but fascinating port of call for cruises, primarily reached from the DACH region via Fly & Cruise in combination with a sea voyage. Due to its island location and Greenland's specific infrastructure, arrival requires careful planning, with ships usually tendering as there are no large terminal buildings.

Travel to Greenland usually takes place via Copenhagen (Denmark) or Reykjavik (Iceland) to Kangerlussuaq International Airport (SFJ) or Narsarsuaq Regional Airport (UAK) in southern Greenland. At a distance of around 70 kilometers, Narsarsuaq is significantly closer to Nanortalik and is the primary arrival point for travelers to this region. Direct flights from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland to Greenland do not exist; connecting flights are always required.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Narsarsuaq (UAK), Nanortalik is not directly accessible by road, but is primarily reached by Air Greenland helicopter or by boat transfer. The duration of the helicopter flight is about 30 minutes, while boat transfers can vary depending on weather and route. Many cruise lines organize these transfers as part of their Fly & Cruise packages or as an optionally bookable service to ensure a seamless onward journey to the ship.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long and often complex travel route to Greenland and possible weather-related delays, an overnight stay prior to embarkation is strongly recommended. This allows for a relaxed start to the trip and provides an important time buffer.
