Port information & tips for Zell

Zell an der Mosel is one of Germany's most charming wine towns and a glittering highlight of any river cruise through the picturesque Moselle Valley. The town delights with its idyllic location surrounded by steep vineyards and offers an incomparably welcoming flair thanks to its historic half-timbered houses and warm hospitality. Outstanding sights in the immediate vicinity include the magnificent Schloss Zell, the iconic "Zeller Schwarze Katz" fountain, and the Collis Tower with its wide panoramic view over the river loop. Zell an der Mosel is a picturesque mooring point for river cruises and, thanks to good road and bus connections as well as its proximity to a regional airport, is easily accessible for travelers from the DACH region. The ships dock directly at the Mosel promenade, so the town center can be quickly reached on foot.

Car

You can easily reach Zell via the A61 and A1 motorways. From the A61, take the Emmelshausen or Rheinböllen exits and then follow the B327 or B421 directly to Zell. A large, free Mosel parking lot (Balduinstraße 44, 56856 Zell (Mosel)) is available for short and long-term parking and is just a two-minute walk from the old town. Currently, there may be restrictions due to construction work in the Mosel foreshore, but alternative free parking spaces are available on the former railway embankment and below the Sparkasse.

Train

The nearest train station is Bullay (Umweltbahnhof), around 5 kilometers from Zell. From there, during the high season on weekends, you can easily take a shuttle bus to the Zeller Autobrücke. Alternatively, the RegioLinie 720 runs from Bullay station to the Lindenplatz stop in Zell (Mosel), from where you can reach the pier in just a few steps. Taxis are also available for a quick onward journey.

Airplane

Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) is the nearest airport and less than a half-hour drive from Zell. Direct transfer options are available by bus, taxi, or individual shuttle services, with a bus journey taking about 53 minutes. Arriving the day before is recommended in order to start your river cruise in a relaxed manner.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
