Port information & tips for Werder (Havel)

Werder (Havel) is a picturesque jewel in the heart of the Brandenburg lake district and an enchanting destination for river cruises along the Havel. The town impresses with its idyllic location as a state-recognized resort and enchants visitors with its historic island town, surrounded by glistening water and lush orchards. Cultural highlights include the charming Heilig-Geist-Kirche, the striking historical Bockwindmühle, and the Obstbau-Museum, which keeps the long-standing history of wine and fruit growing alive. River cruise ships dock directly at the central Inselstadt pier. Thanks to this prime location, guests can easily reach the heart of the historic center with its cozy alleys within just a few minutes' walk directly from the pier.

Werder (Havel) is a charming destination for river cruises and is easily accessible from the DACH region thanks to its convenient location in Brandenburg. As it is a river cruise port, the berths are usually centrally located and offer a relaxed embarkation.

Car

Werder (Havel) is excellently connected to the German motorway network. You can reach the city easily via the A10 motorway (Berliner Ring) and the Groß Kreutz or Werder (Havel) exit. From the A2, take the Brandenburg exit and follow the signs. In the city area of Werder (Havel), various public car parks are available, for example at the Havelauen-Center or near the island town. There are also private providers for long-term parking, some of whom may also offer transfers to the pier; here it is advisable to do some advance research with the respective travel provider.

Train

Werder (Havel) station is centrally located and well connected to the regional rail network. Regional trains (RE1) run directly from Berlin to Werder (Havel), which allows for a fast and direct journey. The journey time from Berlin Hauptbahnhof is approximately 30 to 40 minutes. From Werder (Havel) station, you can easily reach the piers for river cruise ships on foot in a few minutes; alternatively, taxis are available.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), which is located about 40 to 50 kilometers from Werder (Havel). From there, the best way to reach Werder (Havel) is by regional express (RE7 or RB14) to Berlin Hauptbahnhof and from there onwards with the RE1 directly to Werder (Havel). A faster, though more expensive, alternative is a taxi or rental car, which will take you directly to the port in about 45 to 60 minutes. Depending on flight times, an overnight stay in Berlin may be recommended when arriving from southern Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, in order to start the short onward journey relaxed on the day of embarkation.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
