Port information & tips for St. Goarshausen

St. Goarshausen is located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley and enchants travelers with its legendary backdrop at the foot of the Loreley rock. The charming town on the right bank of the Rhine exudes pure romance and offers an incomparable panorama thanks to the steep vineyards and the majestic castles Katz and Maus. Cultural highlights include the Loreley Visitor Center on the striking slate rock and the historic old town with its winding alleys. River cruise ships dock directly at the central landing stages on the Rhine promenade, making the picturesque town center, regional wine taverns, and the riverbanks easily accessible within just a few minutes' walk.

St. Goarshausen, picturesquely situated in the UNESCO Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage site, is a popular destination for river cruises. The port is characterized by charming berths on the banks of the Rhine and, thanks to its central location, is easily accessible from the DACH region.

Car

Arrival by car is convenient via the B42 federal road, which runs directly through St. Goarshausen and offers excellent connections to the national road network. Parking is available for travelers in the immediate vicinity of the piers, including the "Parkplatz am Hafen" (Am Hafen 10) and the "Loreley Parkplatz am Rheinufer" on the B42. Short-term and long-term parking spaces are available here for a fee. Plan your arrival carefully, as noise from rail traffic can occur, especially at night.

Train

St. Goarshausen station is a relevant stop and is conveniently located near the ship piers. Normally, the RheingauLinie (RB10) operates here, providing connections from the direction of Wiesbaden and Koblenz. Please note, however, that the right Rhine line is closed to train traffic from July 10 to December 12, 2026, due to modernization work. During this period, an extensive rail replacement service with buses will be established, offering Wi-Fi and luggage racks and ensuring coordinated connections to maintain your mobility.

Airplane

The nearest major international airport is Frankfurt am Main (FRA), approximately 62 kilometers away. From Frankfurt Airport, you can reach St. Goarshausen by car in about 1 hour and 4 minutes. Alternatively, there are train connections that will take you to St. Goar in about 1 hour and 14 minutes or to St. Goarshausen with a transfer. Comfortable airport transfers, for example with a fixed price guarantee, are also offered to get you to your ship relaxed. Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) is slightly closer at around 39.5 kilometers, but often involves longer transfer times by bus and train.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the shipping company and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
