Riol is an idyllic gem on the Moselle, welcoming travelers in the midst of the picturesque wine landscape of Rhineland-Palatinate. The charming community impresses with its quiet location on the riverbank and offers a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere thanks to gentle vineyards and historic half-timbered houses. Visitors can explore the extensive Triolago leisure grounds with its thrilling summer toboggan run and also enjoy the magnificent panoramic view from the Rioler Römerberg far across the winding Moselle valley. River cruise ships dock at the centrally located Riol ship pier, which is situated directly on the waterfront promenade, providing direct, comfortable access to the cozy village center as well as the adjacent cycling and hiking trails.
Riol an der Mosel is a picturesque docking point for river cruises, blending harmoniously into the Moselle landscape. Although it is not a large ocean port, Riol is easily accessible for travelers from the DACH region thanks to its good connections. Embarkation takes place at a simple ship pier directly on the river.
Car
Traveling to Riol by car is extremely convenient via the A1 motorway (Mosel-Saarbrücken), which runs about 800 meters south of the town and provides a direct connection to Trier and Saarbrücken. Public parking is available for your car, including a parking lot at the roundabout near the pier. There is also a daily parking lot on the Unnamed Road in 54340 Riol, a flat meadow directly on the river with a fee of 3 euros.
Train
The nearest major railway station is Trier Hauptbahnhof, which is excellently connected to the German rail network. From there, you can easily reach Riol with the Moselbahn bus line 22. The journey from Trier Hauptbahnhof to the "Riol, Bahnhofstraße" or "Riol, Im Pichter" stops takes about 41 minutes and allows for a relaxed transfer to your ship.
Airplane
For international guests or travelers from more distant regions, Luxembourg Airport (LUX) is the closest international airport. From there, various transfer options to Riol are available, often via Trier Hauptbahnhof. The bus connection from Trier to Riol takes another 41 minutes. When arriving by plane, we recommend staying overnight in the Trier region the day before to start your embarkation relaxed and on time.
Check-in & Embarkation
