Minden is a fascinating Hanseatic city on the Weser and impresses with its rich history as well as its architectural diversity. The atmosphere in the historic old town directly on the riverbank is inviting and combines North German charm with impressive monuments in green surroundings. Absolute highlights include the world-unique Waterway Junction, where the Mittellandkanal crosses the Weser in a monumental trough bridge, as well as the imposing Minden Cathedral and the picturesque Fischerstadt. River cruise ships dock ideally at the passenger pier at the Schlagde, from where the lively city center and the most important sights can be easily reached in just a few minutes on foot thanks to the central location.
Minden is an important starting point for river cruises on the Weser and the Mittellandkanal and is very well connected. The piers, primarily the Weserpromenade in the city center and the Schachtschleuse, are easily accessible.
Car
Minden is optimally accessible via the A2 motorway (Dortmund-Hannover); use the Porta Westfalica/Minden exit to head directly toward the city. Arrival via the B61 is also straightforward. For cruise guests, the free large car park "Kanzlers Weide" (approx. 10-minute walk to the pier) as well as partially paid parking options at the Schlagde car park are available at the Weserpromenade. If starting at the Schachtschleuse, you will find free parking spaces opposite the office at Sympherstraße 16, from where the pier is within walking distance of about 300 meters. An inner-city parking guidance system also directs you to other parking garages in the center of Minden.
Train
Minden (Westf) main station is an important hub with comfortable IC, Interregio, and local transport connections from cities such as Hannover, Bielefeld, Osnabrück, or Hamm. From the station, you can easily reach the piers by taxi or local bus lines. To reach the Schachtschleuse, you can use lines 1, 14, or 501, for example, with stops such as Melittastraße, Gabelsberger Straße, or Nordfriedhof within walking distance of the terminal.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Hannover Airport (HAJ), located around 56 kilometers from Minden. The driving time by car or private transfer is approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Alternatively, you can rent a car directly at the airport to reach the port flexibly. Although there is no direct train connection, private shuttle providers such as Kiwitaxi or Blackline Shuttle offer comfortable transfers at a fixed price, allowing for a relaxed journey.
