Port information & tips for Mannheim

Mannheim is a fascinating destination at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar rivers and forms the cultural heart of the metropolitan region. The historic "City of Squares" impresses with a unique urban flair and, thanks to its spacious parks and modern art scene, combines historical charm with vibrant energy. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the magnificent Mannheim Baroque Palace, one of the largest palace ensembles in the world, and the iconic Water Tower at Friedrichsplatz with its ornate gardens. Cruise ships dock centrally at the Mannheim pier on the Rheinsteiger or at the Haus am Fluss, from where the lively city center and the famous Planken shopping mile can be easily reached after a short, ten-minute walk.

Mannheim is a major hub for river cruises on the Rhine and Neckar, impressing visitors with its central location in the heart of the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region. Thanks to its excellent infrastructure, guests can reach the docking points at the Rhine or Neckar promenade easily and directly.

Car

The A6, A61, and A656 motorways provide direct access from all directions to the city area and the centrally located moorings. Secure car parks, such as the car park at Friedensplatz or the Rosengarten, are available near the terminals. Additionally, many cruise lines offer special Park-and-Cruise arrangements that include a secure parking space and a shuttle service to the ship.

Train

Mannheim Hauptbahnhof serves as one of Germany's most important ICE hubs, offering convenient direct connections from cities such as Berlin, Munich, Basel, or Vienna. From the station, you can reach the ship moorings at the Rhine promenade or the Neckar comfortably in about 5 to 10 minutes by taxi or by using the direct connections via public tram lines.

Airplane

Frankfurt am Main (FRA) International Airport is located only around 75 kilometers away and can be reached in just 30 to 40 minutes via a direct ICE connection from the airport's long-distance train station. Alternatively, Mannheim City Airport (MHG) offers regional flight connections and, thanks to its location on the outskirts of the city, allows for a particularly short transfer of only about 15 minutes to the docking points.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the cruise: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
