Port information & tips for Mainz
Mainz is the charming state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate and a brilliant highlight of any Rhine cruise. The city delights with its harmonious blend of Roman history, vibrant wine culture, and picturesque half-timbered houses directly on the riverbank. Outstanding sights include the imposing Romanesque Mainz Cathedral St. Martin, the world-famous Gutenberg Museum, and the brilliant blue Chagall windows in the Church of St. Stephan. River cruise ships dock directly at the central berths on the Mainz Rhine embankment, preferably at the piers on Peter-Altmeier-Allee or Adenauer-Ufer. Thanks to this first-class location, guests can easily reach the historic old town and all cultural highlights within a few minutes' walk, making Mainz a perfect destination for relaxed exploration tours on foot.
The Mainz cruise port is easily accessible thanks to its central location in the Rhine-Main region and serves as an ideal starting point for river cruises on the Rhine. The various mooring points along the banks of the Rhine are located in the immediate vicinity of the historic Altstadt and have excellent infrastructural connections.
Car
Via the A60, A63, and A66 motorways, you can quickly reach the city center of Mainz from all directions and proceed directly to the berths on the Rhine embankment. Sufficient parking space is available for cruise guests in central parking garages such as the Malakoff-Park or the Rathaus parking garage; additionally, specialized service providers offer convenient park-and-cruise options including transfer to the ship.
Train
Mainz Hauptbahnhof is a major hub for Deutsche Bahn's long-distance services, with regular ICE and IC connections from cities such as Cologne, Munich, or Stuttgart. From the station, you can reach the berths at Victor-Hugo-Ufer or Adenauer-Ufer in about five to ten minutes by taxi, while also benefiting from the direct connection to the regional S-Bahn network.
Airplane
Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is located only about 30 kilometers from Mainz and offers travelers from Switzerland and Austria excellent direct connections. Thanks to the S8 S-Bahn line, you can reach Mainz Hauptbahnhof directly from the airport every 15 minutes in a travel time of about 25 minutes, while taxi rides to the port represent a comfortable alternative for the short distance to the ship.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
