Port information & tips for Hamburg

Hamburg is the magnificent Hanseatic city on the Elbe and welcomes travelers as the "Gateway to the World" with a unique maritime flair and an impressive cosmopolitanism. The atmosphere is characterized by the harmonious interplay of historic brick architecture, modern glass facades, and the busy hustle and bustle on the water. Brilliant highlights in the immediate vicinity include the imposing Elbphilharmonie, the historic Speicherstadt, and the fascinating Miniatur Wunderland. Cruise ships usually dock at the central Cruise Center HafenCity, the picturesque Cruise Center Altona, or the modern Cruise Center Steinwerder. Thanks to excellent connections via shuttle services or the HADAG ferries, guests can reach the vibrant city center with its elegant shopping arcades and the Rathausmarkt within a few minutes.

Hamburg is considered one of the best-connected cruise ports in Europe and impresses with a first-class infrastructure featuring the three central terminals Altona, HafenCity, and Steinwerder. Thanks to its location directly on the Elbe and excellent connections to the long-distance transport network, the journey for guests from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland is particularly comfortable and straightforward.

Car

Via the A1, A7, and A24 motorways, the Hanseatic city is excellently connected to the supra-regional road network, leading you directly to the signposted terminals. Guarded long-term parking spaces and parking garages are available at all locations; furthermore, specialized Park & Cruise service providers near the motorway exits offer convenient parking spaces including a direct shuttle service to the ship.

Train

Hamburg Hauptbahnhof serves as a central ICE hub with regular direct connections from cities such as Berlin, Munich, Vienna, or Zurich, allowing for a relaxed start to your journey. From there, you can reach the HafenCity and Steinwerder terminals in about 10 to 20 minutes by taxi or the cruise lines' shuttle buses, while the Altona terminal is also very easy to reach via the S-Bahn lines S1 and S3 as well as the Elbe ferries from the Landungsbrücken.

Airplane

Hamburg Airport (HAM) is located only about 15 kilometers from the port and is served several times daily from throughout the DACH region. The S-Bahn line S1 connects the airport directly to the Hauptbahnhof every 10 minutes, from where the onward journey to the ships takes place; alternatively, taxis or pre-booked private transfers will take you directly to the respective cruise terminal in about 30 to 45 minutes travel time.
