Port information & tips for Fireworks in St. Goar
St. Goar, in the heart of the UNESCO Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site, is the epitome of German river romance and the ideal setting for the spectacular "Rhein in Flammen" event. The picturesque location between steep vineyards and the glittering riverbank creates an incomparable atmosphere that is particularly inviting thanks to the historical backdrop. Cultural highlights include the impressive Burg Rheinfels directly above the town, as well as the legendary Loreley and the late Gothic Stiftskirche. River cruise ships dock at the central St. Goar landing stage on the riverside promenade, from where the charming town center with its half-timbered houses and cozy wine taverns can be easily reached on foot in just a few minutes.
St. Goar am Rhein, known for its picturesque location and as the setting for "Rhine in Flames," is easily accessible for cruise guests from the DACH region. The various docking points are located directly on the Rhine promenade and are straightforward to reach.
Car
The cruise port of St. Goar is conveniently accessible via the B9 federal road directly along the Rhine. The A61 motorway also provides a good connection, from which you can quickly reach St. Goar. Numerous parking spaces are available directly on-site and along the B9, which are often free of charge during the winter season. During the "Rhine in Flames" event, there are special traffic management systems and temporary closures of the B9, so early arrival or the use of public transport is recommended to enjoy a relaxed start.
Train
St. Goar station is centrally located and therefore ideally close to the ship docking points. Thanks to regular regional train connections, such as the RB26 line, you can reach St. Goar comfortably from various directions. The piers on the Rhine promenade are within walking distance of the station in just a few minutes, allowing for a direct and convenient transition to the ship.
Airplane
The nearest international airport is Frankfurt Airport (FRA), approximately 62 kilometers away. From there, you benefit from a direct train connection to St. Goar station, which takes you to your destination in around 1 hour and 14 minutes. This offers a relaxed travel option for guests with longer journeys who prefer a combination of flight and train.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
