Port information & tips for Breisach

Breisach am Rhein is the picturesque gateway to the Black Forest as well as to neighboring Alsace and is nestled in the sun-drenched wine region of Southern Baden. The historic European city impresses with its location right on the river and radiates an inviting flair thanks to its medieval alleys and gentle vineyards. Visitors discover brilliant highlights here such as the majestic St. Stephansmünster on the Münsterberg, the history-steeped Radbrunnenturm, and the famous Geldermann Privatsektkellerei right at the foot of the mountain. River cruise ships dock at the central ship pier on the banks of the Rhine, from where the historic old town and the market square are easily accessible on foot in just a few minutes thanks to the first-class location.

Breisach am Rhein is a charming starting point for river cruises in the border triangle and is easy to reach from across the entire DACH region thanks to its proximity to France and Switzerland. The ship piers are centrally located on Rheinuferstraße and are well integrated into the local infrastructure due to their proximity to the city center and the train station.

Car

You can easily reach Breisach via the A5 motorway (Karlsruhe-Basel) by taking the Freiburg-Mitte or Bad Krozingen exit and following the B31 federal road directly to the port. Public parking spaces with unlimited parking duration are available on Rheinuferstraße for the duration of your cruise; additionally, local hotel partners and tour operators often offer special park-and-cruise packages including a shuttle to the pier.

Train

Breisach station is optimally connected to the long-distance rail network, as the Breisgau-S-Bahn (line S1) runs every half hour directly from the ICE hub of Freiburg im Breisgau. From the station, you can reach the ship piers on the banks of the Rhine in about 15 to 20 minutes on foot with light luggage, or use one of the taxis waiting directly at the station forecourt for a short transfer.

Airplane

For air passengers, EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (EAP) is an ideal choice, located around 60 kilometers south of Breisach and reachable by car in about 50 minutes. A regular airport bus shuttle also connects the airport directly with Freiburg main station, from where the journey to the ship is easily continued by S-Bahn.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the shipping company and destination—is usually scheduled for about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the latest announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
