The Bristol cruise port, primarily the Royal Portbury Docks, is very well connected thanks to its convenient location in southwest England and is easily accessible for travelers from the DACH region. The terminal is located approximately 13 kilometers from the city center and offers a straightforward arrival.
Car
The port is directly connected to the M4 and M5 motorways, allowing for a quick journey. From the M5, use exit 19 and then follow the signs towards Royal Portbury Dock. Secure parking is available directly at the cruise terminal; however, these must be reserved and paid for in advance through your tour operator or the cruise line. Access is via the West Town Police Gate, from where you follow the signs to the drop-off and parking area.
Train
The nearest major railway station is Bristol Temple Meads, approximately 13 kilometers from the cruise terminal. From there, the best and fastest way to reach the port is by taxi, specifying the cruise terminal at A4 Portway, Avonmouth Docks. While there is a train connection to Avonmouth station, it is still about 5 kilometers from the terminal, and walking within the port area is not permitted; furthermore, there is no taxi rank there, making a pre-booked taxi essential.
Airplane
Bristol Airport (BRS) is the nearest airport and is located around 20 to 22 kilometers from the cruise terminal. The journey by taxi or private transfer takes about 25 minutes. Due to the longer journey from the DACH region and to ensure a relaxed start to your cruise, an overnight stay in a hotel in Bristol on the day before embarkation is recommended.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
