Port information & tips for Pöchlarn
Pöchlarn, the history-steeped "Nibelungenstadt" on the Danube, welcomes river cruise passengers in the heart of the picturesque Mostviertel. The charming town delights with its idyllic waterfront promenade and a relaxed atmosphere, which also makes it perfect for exploring the historic alleys. Cultural highlights include the Oskar-Kokoschka-Haus, the birthplace of the world-famous artist, as well as the impressive Nibelungendenkmal and the late Gothic town parish church Maria Himmelfahrt. Cruise ships dock at the central Danube station Pöchlarn No. 6, which is located directly on the Donauradweg. Thanks to the prime location, guests can reach the town center in just a few minutes on foot while enjoying direct access to the main sights and cozy cafes right on the picturesque riverbanks.
Pöchlarn on the banks of the Danube, located in the heart of the Nibelungengau, is a picturesque starting point for river cruises and easily accessible from the entire DACH region thanks to good transport links. The ship pier is centrally positioned and allows direct access to the charming small town.
Auto
Pöchlarn is excellently connected to the Austrian motorway network and easy to reach via the A1 West Autobahn. For travelers arriving by their own car, more than 350 parking spaces are available in a Park & Ride facility at Pöchlarn railway station, ideal for long-term parking. From there, the pier can be comfortably reached on foot or with a short taxi transfer. Briefly pulling up to drop off guests directly at the pier is possible.
Bahn
Pöchlarn railway station is an important junction on the Westbahn line and offers Regional Express connections to Vienna Westbahnhof and Amstetten, for example, as well as regional trains to St. Pölten. The barrier-free station features a Park & Ride facility. From here, you can reach the ship pier in a few minutes' walk. Alternatively, a collective taxi (AST) is also available at the station for the transfer.
Flugzeug
The nearest major international airport is Vienna-Schwechat Airport (VIE), located around 100 kilometers from Pöchlarn. The travel time by car or private transfer is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Direct train connections from Vienna Airport to Pöchlarn do not exist, but various transfer companies offer comfortable shuttle services, starting from 158 euros for a journey. For a relaxed embarkation, especially after long flights, arriving the day before with an overnight stay in the region is recommended.
Check-in & Einschiffung
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
